Lorelei Morton was reflecting out loud as she swiped at some crumbs that it was a shame about the Nelsons.
“Shame, “ echoed Susie Jenkins. Susie was blonde in a manner of speaking, and owned a house across the dead
end circle that formed the neighborhood where they lived. She had come over that morning to see about
staging the Nelson place--out of hope that new drapes and the right color walls would improve its chances to
be sold. The neighborhood association considered such maneuvers essential and gone so far as to vote on it,
too. And so, Lorelei who the association’s head and a persuasive sort, had enlisted her friend for the task.

Ebenezer Zane gave Zanesville, Ohio its name, as well as his descendent Zane Grey,
author of countless Westerns. Grey had some deep understanding of human nature as well.
The author of RIDERS OF THE PURPLE SAGE observed, “People live for the dream in their hearts.
And I have yet to know anyone who has not some secret dream, some hope, however dim, some
storied wall to look at in the dusk, some painted window leading to the soul.”
Zanesville is one of those conservative communities in rural Ohio where the civic organizations
and Republican party line generally rule. It is also in the district where disgraced
Congressman Bob Ney pleaded guilty to accepting bribes from Jack Abramoff and went to jail.

"Selected Works" is a book of six poems and art expertly synced together by Stephen Mead.
A writer and artist, Mead is able to use his art to express his words and vice versa.
"Washing the Body" is a purely organic experience with obvious religious overtones --powerful yet subtle.
"Drug" seems to bean overt homage to cigarette smoking; however this piece invokes celebrity assistance
with references to and drawings of Marilyn Monroe, Marlene Dietrich, etc.

Recently I have been troubled about what I am seeing by way of censorship and “boundaries”
being laid out on various web-sites around the world. It seems to me that no one is capable
of doing the right thing when it comes to what they want to post, even on their own personal
web-sites. “It is too sexual, it contains religious content, it dances too close to the Jesus fire,
it may be too pro-war, it may not support the troops,” on and on ad nauseum until one has to wonder
if there should be any commentaries or writing at all.

Notes From The Edge
God That Can Save Me
I will celebrate this 4th of July with great love for my country and my fellow countrymen. Also
though, we are in a time of great paranoia and personal devestation at what the future may hold.
Despite what many will tell you, our country is strong, but our will and dedication to this great
experiment of democracy is falling. I've said it before that I think we are spoiled as a country,
unable to make any sacrifice for the greater good. This is misguided. The world will not end, this
country will not fall unless we are unable to rise up in it's defence. I ask you all to really sit
and think about what it means to be an American? What are our obligations and what are our benefits.
Would you want to live in anouther country? I wouldn't, this is the greatest place on earth.
